The real estate landscape in the United States, especially in Florida, is always growing and adapting. Properties are bought and sold daily. Local markets, design trends, interest and the availability of funds for home buying, and the desires and needs of buyers and sellers are all constantly changing variables. As a legal and real estate professional, I make it a point to regularly and consistently devote time to professional reading and continuing education.
Whether through reading books or industry publications, perusing online and professional resources, or taking formal courses in my chosen line of work, I don’t view my efforts as drudgery or an undesirable necessity. Instead, I regard professional reading and education as an opportunity to expand my horizons, gain strategic advantage in the marketplace, and provide better service to my clients and customers.
More importantly, I honestly believe the old adage that knowledge is power. For me personally, it’s not just about reading and engaging in education; it’s about lifelong learning. I don’t just want to expand my professional knowledge and opportunities, but it has been my desire to never stop learning about as many topics as possible.
This approach has allowed me to be comfortable in almost any setting, from formal meetings with high-level business and government personnel throughout my career to simple social situations with friends or casual acquaintances. From writing marketing script to communicating effectively orally and in writing, from negotiating deals to completing and closing the detailed documentation of real estate transactions, a well-rounded and expansive knowledge base is a capability multiplier and a key to success. I highly encourage everyone to never stop reading and learning.
So what am I reading right now? In the realm of Luxury Real Estate, I have been reading a lot of professional material from the National Association of Realtors Luxury Real Estate website: https://www.nar.realtor/luxury-properties. I also recently took a formal certification course from the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing:
https://www.luxuryhomemarketing.com — and I plan to take many more. For pleasure reading, I’ve been into history quite a bit lately and am currently reading The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson, the absolutely fascinating story of Winston Churchill in the early years of World War II before the US entered the war, when he almost singlehandedly led the effort to stop Nazi domination of Europe.
I hope this short note inspires others to become lifelong learners and engage in regular professional reading and education. If you have questions or comments or want o explore the possibility of living in Florida, please contact me at 321.831.6222 or dave(at)luxuryinthesunrealestate(dotted)com
